Founded in 2015 by Vancouver police officer, Kal Dosanjh and Kiran Toor, KidsPlay is a non-profit organization that works towards keeping kids away from the lifestyle of drugs, gangs, and violence. KidsPlay holds sports tournaments, conferences, and other projects for youth to learn about the opportunities they can seize in life. The organization is operated by leaders from all across the Lower Mainland wanting to bring positive change to the community with the ultimate aim for kids to discover the incredible potential they have within themselves to reach greater heights.
KidsPlay has expressed interest in starting a daycare at this location which will be a part of their Non-Profit reinvestment into programs. This daycare will provide subsidized pricing, with rent paid to the Daya Community Foundation. Additionally they will be renting space in the gymnasium and meeting space to host broader community programs at this multi-use facility.
Recognizing the lack of community facilities in the city, the City of Mission is fully supportive of this project and has provided the Daya Foundation with a Memorandum of Understanding stating their support for this project. Additionally, the City has guaranteed rental income to the Foundation and has offered to waive building permit fees.
